CRIME/CHARGES:
NARRATIVE:
On Wednesday, June 29, 2022; a Pomona police patrol officer was in the area of Monterey Av. and Main St. when he noticed a vehicle fail to make a complete stop at a stop sign regulated intersection. The officer followed the vehicle and noticed a second violation for the same reason at an adjacent intersection. Due to the two violations, the patrol officer decided to initiate a traffic enforcement stop. Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and found the driver to be, Ricky Washington. Washington was found to be driving while having a suspended driver’s license status. He, and the front right passenger, Tychanique Bluitt were asked to exit the vehicle to which they complied. Officers found that there were two young children in the vehicle as well. Based on Washington’s driver’s license status, Officers searched the vehicle and found two loaded, unregistered firearms at the feat of the two infant children. Washington was found to be a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms. Washington and Bluitt were arrested for firearms related charges and child endangerment. The children were referred to the Department of Children and Family Services for further investigation. Washington and Bluitt were booked at the Pomona city jail under the above listed charges.
The Pomona Police Department is proactive in enforcing traffic violations. However, traffic stops are inherently dangerous due to unpredictable circumstances and/or the possibility that occupants of a vehicle could be armed. It is for this reason, the Pomona Police Department encourages its citizens to report illegal activity similar to the incident described.
