The attached photos are a simple visual guide to which fireworks are prohibited, permitted, and de-regulated in the State of New Jersey. New Jersey modified its existing fireworks law in 2017, making the sale and use of non-aerial fireworks such as hand-held sparklers, smoke devices, and ground-based sparklers legal.
New Jersey law strictly prohibits both the sale and use of large fireworks, which generally include any aerial explosive such as bottle rockets, firecrackers, and Roman candles.
21:3-2, Sale, Possession, or use of, Prohibited (Partial)
1. It shall be unlawful for any person to offer for sale, expose or sale, sell, possess or use, or explode any blank cartridge, toy pistol, toy cannon, toy can, or toy gun in which explosives are used, firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets, roman candles, bombs, or other fireworks of like construction. (Effective 6/28/17 – non-explosive fireworks like sparklers, glow worms, party poppers and smoke devices are not illegal)
a. Penalties – Sells, offers for sale, possess with intent to sell- 4 th degree; Purchase, use, discharge, ignites, or possesses – Petty Disorderly Person
