Highland Man Arrested After Traffic Stop Leads to the Discovery of Suspected Methamphetamine

LOCATION: 5th Street and Central Avenue, Highland, CA
SUSPECT(S): Gustavo Martinez, 35-years-old, resident of Highland, CA
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at approximately 6:37 p.m., Deputy N. Carnes with the Highland Police Station conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that committed a dangerous moving violation. During a search of the vehicle, Carnes located an unregistered EAA Tanfoglio Witness 9mm pistol, a loaded 9mm magazine for the pistol, and three-quarters of a pound of suspected methamphetamine, with an approximate street value of over $2,000.
Deputy Carnes arrested the driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old Highland resident Gustavo Martinez. Martinez was booked into Central Detention Center for possession of a controlled substance while armed and possession of a controlled substance for sale.
