On June 28, 2022, detectives with the Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) arrested six suspects for conspiracy to commit a residential burglary. Investigators with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Simi Valley Police Department, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office had been investigating multiple residential burglaries or attempted residential burglaries that occurred between May 20, 2022 and June 3, 2022. Detectives recognized the modus operandi as being consistent with criminal activities conducted by members of the South American Theft Group (SATG). Based on evidence and the investigation, detectives identified members of one SATG crew as the suspects responsible for these burglaries. On June 28, 2022, detectives with the Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit received information the SATG residential burglary crew was in the city of Newbury Park. Detectives located two vehicles associated to the burglary crew in a residential neighborhood of Newbury Park. At about 1550 hours, detectives conducted a traffic stop of the two vehicles associated to the SATG crew in the 400 block of Ventu Park Road. Detectives were able to identify the six suspects as (S) Laura Maria Gaona Espinosa, (S) Yesid Garzon Herrera, (S) John Jaruvy Zambrano, (S) Kevin Andres Parra Nino, (S) Johan Martin Rivera Zambrano, and (S) Brayan Giraldo Taborda and determined all six suspects were Colombian Nationals. Detectives also contacted a female victim, of an attempt burglary, who resides in the 100 block of Heavenly Valley Road. The female victim explained that a younger Hispanic female suspect had knocked on her front door with flowers asking for a subject named “Allan.” The female victim found the behavior suspicious and told the suspect no such subject lived at the location. Based on the description given, detectives were able to identify the female suspect as Espinosa. The modus operandi is consistent with the “knock knock” style residential burglaries that had been committed by this SATG crew. These SATG members target homes in which no one answers the door prior to forcing entry and stealing valuables and or cash. All six subjects were booked into Ventura County Jail for conspiracy to commit residential burglaries. There are pending charges for additional burglaries committed in Ventura County. |
