SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR GRAND THEFT AUTO
On July 3, 2022, at approximately 4:00 pm, a Simi Valley Police Officer observed an orange Hyundai Veloster with black bumpers traveling eastbound at the 2000 block of Fitzgerald Rd. The Officer immediately recognized the Hyundai as a recently reported stolen vehicle. SVPD Patrol units initiated a high-risk stop of the vehicle. The suspect drove into a nearby residential neighborhood, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot.
A containment of the area was quickly established and the suspect was later seen fleeing onto the closed campus of Hillside Middle School. As officers pursued and took the suspect down, he continued to resist arrest and struggled against the officers efforts to take him into custody.
Two of the officers involved and the suspect sustained minor injuries during the apprehension. All three were treated at a local hospital and released.
The suspect was identified as Simi Valley resident Anthony Pichel 18 years old. Mr. Pichel was transported and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail for felony auto theft and resisting an officer.
