The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito June 28th to June 30, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
July 1st

Provide false information to police, Warrant arrest – AT&T, 4010 EC Plaza.    
An officer observed a subject with an open container of alcohol.  The officer contacted the subject and asked for identification.  The subject provided a false name to the officer which led to his arrest.  Once back at the El Cerrito Police Department, the subject was fingerprinted and his true identity was revealed.  He was found to have a warrant issued for his arrest.  The man was booked and released with a citation. 

Shoplifting – Ross, 2000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 11:11, an unknown suspect entered the business, concealed men’s shoes, jackets, shirts, and two handbags, then fled the store. 

Shoplifting – Marshall’s, 10794 San Pablo Ave.
At 10:30 am, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 54-year-old man after he entered the business, concealed merchandise, and fled without paying.  The man was released with a citation.

At 7:01 pm officers were sent to a call at the store because someone had entered the store, selected merchandise, and left without paying for the items. 

Carjacking – 10800 block San Pablo Avenue;
At 8:21 pm officers were sent to the report of a carjacking that had occurred the day before.  The victim described they were driving their car with a friend.  When the arrived home the friend threatened the victim with violence and told the victim to get out of the car.  When the victim got out the friend drove away with the car. 

July 2nd

Shoplifting – Marshall’s, 10794 San Pablo Ave. 
At 12:45, three unknown suspects entered the business, concealed several hundred dollars’ worth of merchandise, and fled without paying.  They were last seen exiting the lot in a black SUV. 

Shoplifting – 10794 San Pablo Avenue (Marshalls);
At 6:18 pm an officer was sent for the report that someone had entered the store, selected merchandise, and left the store without paying for the items.  

Attempted Commercial Burglary – 10500 San Pablo Avenue;
At 6:36 pm an officer was sent to the business for the report that someone had tried to cut the lock on the door the night before. 

Petty Theft – 6500 block of Schmidt Lane;
At 8:12 pm an officer was sent to the report that someone stole the victims bicycle the night before.  Someone had cut the bike lock off the bike rack and stole the bike. 

Commercial Burglary – 10636 San Pablo Avenue (24 Hour Fitness);
At 10:30 pm an officer was sent to the report that someone had cut a lock off one of the lockers in the locker room and removed the contents of the locker. 
 
July 3rd

Restraining Order Violation – 7400 block of Rockway Avenue;
At 1:16 am officers were dispatched to the report that someone that the victim had a restraining order against was seen around the house in violation of the order.  The suspect was located a few blocks away and was placed under arrest for the violation.  They were booked at ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Vandalism – El Mono, 11720 San Pablo Ave.
Between 7/2/22 at 10:30 pm and 7/3/22 at midnight, unknown suspect shattered a window at the business. 

Hit and run – San Pablo Ave. / Portola Dr. 
At 1:45 pm, officers responded to a hit and run involving a dirt bike and a vehicle.  The dirt bike rider was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of San Pablo Ave. and attempted to make a left turn onto Portola Dr.  A motorist traveling in the correct direction attempted to turn and avoid a collision.  Having both turned the same direction, the dirt biker struck the vehicle.  The rider dumped the dirt bike and fled on foot.  The motorist suffered pain to her back and shoulder.
