MPD STEP UNIT investigating (2) serious crashes:
#1: Pedestrian Struck by Auto Saturday Morning
The Marietta Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) Unit is currently investigating a serious injury pedestrian crash that occurred on North Marietta Parkway at Mill Street early Saturday morning around 3:18 AM. The initial on-scene investigation revealed that the female pedestrian, twenty-eight-year-old Rebecca Calder of Atlanta, was attempting to cross the roadway, outside of a crosswalk, when she darted into the path of an approaching vehicle. Calder was struck by a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage driven by twenty-three-year-old Stacia Tuppince of Marietta. Tuppince remained on-scene and is cooperating with investigators. Calder sustained serious injuries and was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment. The crash investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Sergeant B. #2: Single Vehicle Serious Injury Crash Sunday Night
The Marietta Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) Unit is currently investigating a single vehicle serious injury crash that occurred on Interstate 75 Southbound at Allgood Road Sunday night around 7:32 PM. The initial on-scene investigation revealed that fifty-nine-year-old Salim Maarouf of Marietta was traveling Southbound approaching the Allgood Road Overpass in his 2013 Nissan Sentra. Maarouf failed to maintain his lane of travel and left the roadway striking the median wall on the West side of the roadway, before traveling across all lanes and striking the center median wall head-on. Maarouf sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Kennestone Hospital for treatment. The crash investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Officer N.
