INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision (Felony Hit and Run)
LOCATION: Baseline Street and Seeley Court, Highland, CA
SUSPECT(S): Tanya Aliyah Paopao, 21-year-old resident of San Bernardino (white 2017 Kia Soul)
VICTIM(S): 54-year-old male resident of Highland
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at approximately 8:42 PM, deputies from the Highland Station and medical personnel from Cal Fire and American Medical Repsonse responded to the area of Baseline Street and Seeley Court for a traffic collision. Upon arrival, deputies found a male subject unresponsive and lying in the middle of Baseline Street. Witnesses saw a white Kia Soul flee the area immediately following the collision. The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers with the San Bernardino Police Department located the white Kia Soul driving through San Bernardino and initiated a traffic stop. The Kia had damage consistent with the collision and additional evidence was located tying the vehicle to the collision. Tanya Paopao was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center for violation of CVC 20001 - Felony Hit and Run.
Investigators from the Region 1 Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Baseline Street between McKinley Avenue and Seeley Court was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence.
