Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Week of June 27-July 3, 2022

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 06-27-22, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a catalytic converter was stolen from a 2000 Honda Accord on the unit block of Fairway Drive.

On Thursday, 06-30-22, at approximately 8:14 p.m., while Officer Fulmore was at the Serramonte Shopping Center, he was flagged down by a male stating that someone in a black Tesla had pulled a gun on him. The male provided the license plate of the Tesla, said that it was parked in the front aisle in front of Dave & Buster’s, and then left. Officer Fulmore located the Tesla, followed it to an area with no storefronts, nor pedestrians, and effected an investigative stop. The driver was asked to exit the vehicle, and he had a black satchel wrapped around his chest. Officer Fulmore asked the suspect to place the satchel on the ground. Upon examination of the satchel, there was an empty gun holster inside. Officer Fulmore believed there was possibly a firearm in the car and asked Officer Arguelles and his firearms detection canine to conduct a search of the vehicle. A handgun was located under the driver’s seat. Officer Fulmore looked inside the satchel again and found a silver magazine loaded with ammunition. The suspect, a 34-year-old South San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into jail for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon on his person, carrying an unregistered firearm, and impersonating a police officer.

There was one robbery during the past week.

On Tuesday, 06-28-22, at approximately 11:13 a.m., an employee of Union 76 Gas Station on Junipero Serra Boulevard said a suspect came inside, walked up to the counter, and said, “I want cash!” The suspect reached over to try to open the cash register, but was unable to do so. The employee ran outside and yelled for the manager to help. While the manager was outside looking at the front doors, the suspect said, “You don’t want to get hurt.” Video surveillance showed the suspect grabbing an ice cream bar, removing the wrapper, taking a bite, and then dropping it. The suspect removed another ice cream bar, wandered around the store for a short time, and then left without paying for the ice cream. The suspect walked away southbound from the front door towards San Pedro Road. A short time later, Officer Martin located the suspect on Hill Street, near the Colma Bart Station. The suspect, a 36-year-old transient, was arrested and booked into jail for robbery.

Rental Property Scam

On Monday, 06-27-22, at approximately 12:00 p.m., a 27-year-old Daly City resident and his girlfriend found an apartment for rent on Facebook Marketplace. The girlfriend sent in an application and a $50 processing fee. The girlfriend then received a photograph showing that she was approved and needed to send in a deposit of $350. The girlfriend asked the victim to send in $250 using an online banking transfer. The suspect told the victim and girlfriend to meet at the apartment for the keys. When both arrived, the place was vacant, and no one was there to give them the keys. The victim and girlfriend tried to contact the suspect, but all communication failed. Both have not heard from the suspect ever since the deposit was sent.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
