Advisory

UPDATE: Suspect in custody reference overnight shooting that occurred on 7/4/22. There is no threat to the public.

Original information 7/5/2022:
On Monday, July 4th, 2022, at approximately 11:40 p.m., officers of the Sheboygan Police Department were sent to the 1000 block of Michigan Ave for a report of a person shot.  Officers arrived and located a 40-year-old Sheboygan Man who had a gunshot wound to his abdomen.  Officers and Sheboygan Fire Department Paramedics rendered aid and the man was eventually transported to a Milwaukee area hospital for treatment.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and are actively involved in locating the suspect and any other individuals involved in the incident.

Updated information 7/7/2022:
Officers were able to develop information that this incident began as a verbal dispute between two groups of individuals. The disturbance escalated, and one of the involved people pulled out a firearm and shot another person involved in the disturbance, resulting in serious injury.  Through continued investigation, Sheboygan Police have identified the person responsible for the shooting as 22-year-old Sheboygan resident Lemarr T. Washington Jr (see attached photo).

Police are asking for the community’s assistance in locating Washington.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Sheboygan Police at (920) 459-3333.  Anonymous tips can be submitted through Sheboygan Countywide Crime Stoppers at cufthem.com or 877-CUF-THEM (877-283-8436).  Given the possibility that he may still be armed, the public should not engage Washington themselves or make any attempts to approach or apprehend him, but contact police immediately.

We do not believe there is a continued risk to the community as the investigation shows this to be an isolated incident between the two groups involved in the disturbance and no additional threats have been discovered.

Updated information 7/9/2022:
Lemarr turned himself in and is currently in custody awaiting formal charges from the Sheboygan County District Attorney's Office. There is no threat to the public.
