SWAT Takes Suspect Into Custody at Conclusion of Pursuit

On July 12, 2022 at approximately 9:11 pm, West Covina police officers responded to the 200 block of North Broadmoor Avenue to investigate a domestic battery and attempt rape that had just occurred. The suspect fled in a vehicle and was believed to be armed with a handgun. Officers located the suspect driving a vehicle in the area and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect refused to stop and a pursuit occurred. The pursuit traveled through several freeways and cities. The pursuit ended when the suspect returned to the area where the call originated. The suspect collided into a parked car and was blocked in by pursuing officers.  The suspect made threats that he had a gun and was not giving up. The suspect refused to exit the vehicle and West Covina SWAT team was deployed. The suspect was taken into custody at approximately 2:25 am after the deployment of chemical agents and a police K9.
 
The suspect was identified as Raul Sanchez, a 45 year-old resident of West Covina. He was transported and booked at the West Covina jail for felony domestic battery, forced oral copulation, felony evading and resisting arrest with a bail of $100,000.
 
The suspect did not possess a gun on his person when he was taken into custody. It is not known yet if there is a gun in the vehicle. The vehicle was towed and taken back to the police station and will be searched by detectives in the near future.
