Fatal boat fire near Berkeley Marina 
On July 13th, around 12:38 am, Berkeley Police and Berkeley Fire Department responded to a report of a boat on fire in the water near Marina Blvd. at the Virginia Street extension road (just east of the Double Tree Hotel). A male subject had been pulled from the water and CPR was in progress prior to the arrival of our emergency responders.
Berkeley Fire Department arrived on scene, took over lifesaving efforts, and extinguished the fire aboard the boat. The victim was transported to a local trauma center for further medical aid. Unfortunately, despite lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
This is an active investigation involving multiple allied agencies to include Cal Fire Office of the State Fire Marshal Arson and Bomb Unit and Alameda County Coroner’s Office. We will release further information at a later date as appropriate.
