The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito July 15th to July 18th, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
July 15th
 
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Ross parking lot 11555 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 11:33am hours, an El Cerrito police officer followed a red Ford Escape into the Ross parking lot and ran the license plate on his vehicle computer.  The driver quickly parked the vehicle and he, and his occupants, immediately walked into the Ross store.  The officer learned that the Ford was reported stolen to Napa PD.  Officers checked the store for the suspects, but employees stated the suspects fled towards Del Norte BART.  Officers circulated the area but were unable to locate the suspects. 

Battery Report – Marshall’s 10759 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 11:51am, while the victim was shopping, the suspect, unprovoked, smacked his backpack, which was still on his back, against the victim’s shoulder. The suspect exited the store and ran eastbound on Portola Dr.  The suspect was described as a white male adult, in his 20’s, wearing all black clothing, and a black baseball cap.

Vehicle Vandalism – 8600 block of Terrace Dr.
Sometime during the night, an unknown suspect shattered the rear passenger side window to the victim’s vehicle.
 
July 16th
 
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Avenue at Manila Avenue:
At 1:28 am an officer conducted a suspicious vehicle check and found the owner of the vehicle had an outstanding warrant for their arrest.  The warrant was issued by the Oakland Police Department for Driving Under the Influence and driving on a suspended Driver’s License.  The subject was issued a citation for the warrant and released at the scene. 

Auto Burglary – 11780 San Pablo Ave.
An unknown suspect shattered the rear windshield of the victim’s vehicle and stole a backpack full of clothing. The incident occurred from 7pm last night to 9:30am this morning.

July 17th
 
Battery – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave.
At 5:50am, while being escorted out of the store the suspect pushed the security guard.  The security guard pepper sprayed the suspect in the face, and the suspect fled towards BART.  The security guard reported the incident one hour later. The suspect was described as a BFA, 20-30 years old, wearing a black a jacket, blue jeans and black shoes.    

2022 – 0001418 – Misc. Invest. – 6322 Ohio Ave. – At 1306 hours, ECFD requested traffic control assistance for a structure fire at this building.  After the fire was out, ECFD and an Officer saw the interior was under construction and located fans, humidifiers, portable A/C units, light fixtures, dryer vents, and transitions ducts; which appeared the building was going to be used to cultivate marijuana.  The owner arrived, advised he was unaware of the items inside, and stated his cousin, who is co-owner, is responsible for the items. 

2022 – 0001419 – 459PC(Commercial) – 11090 San Pablo Ave. – At 1318 hours, unknown suspects entered the business by crawling under a locked wooden door on the backside, which is under construction.  The suspects went to the third floor, shattered the glass door and ransacked the interior. The suspects left behind gloves and masks.   

July 18th

Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Avenue at Eastshore Blvd:
At 4:37 am officers were dispatched to the report of a vehicle waiting at the red light and not moving when the lights cycled to green.  When the officers arrived they found a person sleeping in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.  An investigation was completed and after it was determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol.  They were placed under arrest, booked at ECPD, and released to a sober family member.
