27 Cited During Pedestrian Safety Operation

The Berkeley Police Department issued 27 citations for a variety of violations made by drivers during a pedestrian safety operation on July 19th.
 
27 drivers were cited for violations including VC 21950(a)—Driver failure to yield, VC 21950(c)—Unsafe speed at crosswalks, VC 21951—Driver failing to stop at crosswalk when other vehicles have stopped, VC 27315(d)—seatbelt violation, VC 23123.5—failure to use hands free, and VC 12500—unlicensed driver.
 
The operation took place on Martin Luther King Jr Way at the Addison Street and Blake Street intersections between 9 am and 3:30 pm. 36 people were contacted during the operation.
 
“Safety is a shared responsibility, with drivers holding the greatest responsibility to keep other road users safe,” Lt. Jen Tate said. “We hope this operation serves as a reminder to everyone to practice due care and to look out for one another.”
 
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
