EAST COLUMBIA ROAD SANITARY SEWER REPLACEMENT PROJECT TO START ON AUGUST 01.
As you may be aware, East Pennsboro Township has been preparing for replacement of sanitary sewers within East Columbia Road between Wyoming Avenue and Rt. 11&15. When the sewers were originally installed nearly 100 years ago, two clay pipe systems were run parallel to each other, one pipe serving the north side of the street and one for the south side. In an effort to simplify the sewer piping in the street, the Township has bid a design unifying these two lines between the intersections with Wyoming Avenue and Beaver Street. This project will consist of installation of one sanitary sewer main and manholes, installation of new service laterals within the roadway and restoration of the curb, sidewalk and pavement.
The project was recently awarded to DOLI Construction Corporation and the project is anticipated to start on Monday, August 1, 2022. Construction will generally begin around 7 AM each day (excluding weekends) and is expected to end by 7 PM. Completion of the project is expected by the end of October, however; the bulk of the sanitary sewer replacement work is anticipated to be completed by the end August. Temporary paving is anticipated in early September with final paving to be completed in October.
During this time, residents will see an increase in the movement of construction vehicles in the area, along with intermittent road closures and detours as digging commences. The Township will make every effort to communicate the timings of these events through our Nixle Alert System, social media, website and door postings where appropriate. Residents may at times need to park on other streets or find alternate parking arrangements.
