Victorville Transient Arrested After Causing a Disturbance and Striking a Deputy Numerous Times

SUSPECT(S): Richard Thompson, 55-year-old transient of Victorville
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Friday, July 15, 2022, at 11:29 a.m., Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call regarding a male subject who appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and causing a disturbance at businesses in the shopping center. The subject was argumentative with employees and refused to leave the area. Additional callers reported the subject was throwing rocks at vehicles.
Deputies from the Victorville Police Department arrived on scene and contacted the subject, later identified as Richard Thompson. Thompson refused to comply with commands given to him by the deputies and resisted being detained. Thompson struck a deputy multiple times during the encounter.
Thompson was arrested for felony resisting a peace officer. He was booked at High Desert Detention Center. He remains in custody at West Valley Detention Center pending his next court date in August.
