The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of... Effingham County in southeastern Georgia... Chatham County in southeastern Georgia... Beaufort County in southeastern South Carolina... Jasper County in southeastern South Carolina...

* Until 445 PM EDT.

* At 358 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Jasper, and is nearly stationary. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind damage to trees and powerlines.

* Locations impacted include: Bluffton, Ridgeland, Jasper, Rincon, Port Wentworth, Hardeeville, Purysburgh, Pritchardville, Tillman, Sun City and Switzerland. This warning includes the following interstates: I-95 in South Carolina between mile markers 2 and 19. I-95 in Georgia between mile markers 110 and 112.

Instructions:

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. This thunderstorm is capable of producing all types of severe weather including extremely large hail, destructive straight line winds and tornadoes. Move quickly to a safe shelter such as an interior room, a bathroom, closet or basement. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. If this is not possible, avoid open outdoor spaces and remain low. Stay away from tall objects such as trees and utility poles. Report damage directly to the Charleston National Weather Service at 888-383-2024 when it is safe to do so.
