ROHNERT PARK – On 7/24/22, at approximately 1345 hours, Rohnert Park Dispatch received a call of a possible fire at a residence on Michael Wy. A neighbor called in to report that there was smoke coming from the roof of the residence and that they could hear an alarm sounding inside. Gold Ridge Battalion 8 was first to arrive on scene and provided an update that there was smoke inside the structure, and what appeared to be a small fire in the kitchen.  Upon initial entry, there was smoke banked down to within a couple feet of the floor, and the entire second story was charged with smoke and high heat.  Rohnert Park DPS made initial attack on the fire and was able to extinguish it quickly with assistance from Rancho Adobe Fire and Sonoma County Fire.
The fire appeared to have started on a desk, which was situated underneath the stairs to the second floor.  Upon initial investigation, it was determined that a portable air pump was charging on a desk underneath the stairs, which could be the cause of the fire.  Members of the Rohnert Park DPS Fire Investigation Team responded in to conduct the fire investigation.  Damage to the residence from the fire, and smoke, is estimated at approximately $200,000.  Two residents were displace from the fire.  The Rohnert Park DPS would like to thank our neighboring fire agencies for their assistance; Rancho Adobe Fire, Sonoma County Fire, Gold Ridge Fire and Santa Rosa Fire.
