Full Notification

Sheriff Richard J Behnke reports that on 07/24/2022 at approximately 1526 hrs. his office responded to an emergency situation in the 3100 block of Detroit Rd. in Howard Township. Upon arrival there, it was learned that 35-year-old South Bend resident, Brittany Young had been shot. Emergency personnel rendered aid, but Ms. Young succumbed to her injuries.  The initial investigation determined that there was an accidental discharge of a firearm while Ms. Young was transporting it into the house.
 
Assisting the Sheriff’s office were Howard Township fire department and 1^st responders, SMCAS ambulance service, and the Michigan State police.
