INCIDENT: In-Custody Death Investigation
LOCATION: High Desert Detention Center, Adelanto
DECEASED: 38-year-old Male
SUMMARY: On Saturday, July 23, 2022, a deputy and nurse assigned to the High Desert Detention Center discovered a male inmate unresponsive in his cell, as they conducted morning medical checks. CPR was rendered and paramedics were requested. Despite life-saving measures, the inmate was pronounced deceased by paramedics.
Investigators with Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded and are conducting the investigation. The cause and manner of death are pending the coroner’s autopsy. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The deceased was arrested by Hesperia Police Department on July 21, 2022, and booked at the High Desert Detention Center.
