Please follow the #9pmRoutine!

On the evening of July 24, 2022, the Denville Police responded to the area of Canterbury Road on a report of a possible motor vehicle burglary in progress. Officers subsequently located and arrested three adults and one juvenile for conspiracy to commit burglary. The juvenile was also charged with receiving stolen property and possession of a handgun.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our residents to please follow the 9PM Routine. Each night, before going to bed, you should make an effort to ensure that all of your vehicles are locked, any valuables are removed, and any exterior lights/sensors are activated.

Over the last few years, Denville and the surrounding communities have seen an increase in motor vehicle burglaries and motor vehicle thefts. In an overwhelming number of the incidents, the victimized vehicles were left unlocked. As for those vehicles that were stolen, the keys/key fob were left inside the unlocked vehicles.

As long as we continue to offer up easy targets, the criminals responsible for these types of crimes will continue to return to our area. Please help us to keep Denville a safe and secure community by taking a few minutes each day to make sure your vehicles, homes and other property are secure. Taking a few simple steps in performing the #9pmRoutine every night can help prevent you and your property from becoming victimized.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
