INCIDENT: Major Accident Investigation
LOCATION: Hesperia Road & Bear Valley Road, Victorville
SUSPECT(S): Desirae Monique Corral, 26-year-old female resident of Victorville
VICTIM(S): Marcos Amaya, 42-year-old male resident of Hesperia
UPDATE: On July 26, 2022, after an extensive investigation by Deputy Bennington and Deputy Mata, criminal charges were filed against Desirae Monique Corral, by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
On July 27, 2022, Corral was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, and hit and run causing injury or death. Corral is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.
SUMMARY: On Saturday, January 1, 2022, at 12:00 a.m., deputies from the Victorville Police Department, along with rescue personnel from Victorville Fire Department and American Medical Response, responded to a hit and run traffic collision at the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Hesperia Road in Victorville. Deputies and medical personnel arrived on scene and pronounced the pedestrian deceased at 12:04 a.m.
Deputies with the Victorville Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) responded and assumed the investigation. Deputies learned the victim walked south across Bear Valley Road and was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Bear Valley Road. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the collision.
Through investigation, deputies identified the driver as Desirae Monique Corral. Desirae Corral was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence causing death, hit and run resulting in death, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Desirae Corral was booked at the High Desert Detention Center.
All east bound and west bound lanes of Bear Valley Road and north bound and south bound lanes of Hesperia Road remained closed for several hours while deputies conducted their investigation. The investigation in still ongoing.
