Flood Warning until 08:30AM Thursday

* WHAT...Additional rainfall on saturated ground will continue the threat for flooding overnight.

* WHERE...A portion of southeast West Virginia, including the following county, Western Greenbrier.

* WHEN...Until 830 AM EDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Some roads remain closed in the Rupert to Rainelle area from 2 to 4 inches of rain which fell on Wednesday. Additional moderate rainfall was spreading into the western portion of the county at this hour and is likely to continue for the next several hours. Sewell Creek at Rainelle and the Meadow River near Rainelle are both near flood stage at this hour and additional rainfall could push these river basins into flood. U.S. Route 60 remains closed at Rupert due to high water and flooding.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1139 PM EDT, Flooding continues in portions of western Greenbrier county at this hour. Additional moderate rainfall is poised to spread into the western half of the county over the next few hours. The ground is completely saturated and creeks and streams are already near or above bankful in these areas. Thus flooding will remain a threat overnight. Some roads will remain closed, including U.S. 60 at Rupert, due to high water and flooding. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Burdette Creek, Kitchen Creek, Laurel Creek, Big Clear Creek, Dry Run, Fisher Creek, Beaver Creek, Elijah Branch, Joe Knob Branch, Improvement Branch, Fitzwater Branch, Eagle Branch, Boggs Creek, Beech Run and Cold Knob Fork. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Rainelle, Rupert, Quinwood, Duo, Anjean, Williamsburg and Trout. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
