The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito July 18th to July 20th, 2022.

 The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
July 18th

Theft from Vehicle – 500 block of Liberty St.
At approximately 11:27am, El Cerrito police officers were dispatched to an unknown male rummaging inside the victims parked vehicle. El Cerrito police officers arrived and detained a 25 year old male from Richmond as he was walking away from the vehicle.  The male was in possession of the victim’s property.  The victim did not want to place the male under citizen’s arrest, so the male was released from the scene. 

Vandalism and Probation Violation Arrest – San Pablo Ave at Conlon Ave.
At approximately 2:09pm, El Cerrito police officers responded to a male stabbing vehicle tires with a knife.  An El Cerrito police officer detained a 22 year old male who was holding a pocket knife.  The male was found to be on probation out of Contra Costa County for brandishing a weapon.  The male was taken into custody, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation. 

Battery – 9901 San Pablo Ave (Chipotle):
At 8:29 PM, an officer reports a 62 year old unsheltered woman was asked by store management to leave the Chipotle restaurant.  She refused, and at one point struck the manager on his face with an open hand.  The woman left the restaurant and the victim declined prosecution.

July 19th

Attempted Homicide / Assault with Deadly Weapon / Probation Violation / Recovered Stolen Vehicle / Recovered Firearm / Felon in Possession of Firearm – S 55th St near Cypress Ave
At 1213 hours, Officers were dispatched to the area of the 5300 block of School Street for a report of three gunshots heard in the area.  As officers arrived on scene, dispatched advised of one victim on S. 55th St south of Cypress Ave.  The male victim in his 40’s was transported by air to a local trauma hospital.  The suspect, a convicted felon, was described as a Hispanic male 40’s from Pittsburg.  He was taken into custody at the scene without incident and positively identified.  The suspects’ vehicle was recovered near the scene. 

Vandalism – 6500 block of Gladys Ave
An unknown suspect shattered a window to a vehicle over the past five days.

Grand Theft – El Cerrito Plaza
At approximately 1608 hours, the suspect entered the cellphone store and stole a phone from the counter as a transaction was taking place.

Shoplift / Provide False Name to Officer / Warrants x 4 – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 7:33 PM, an officer was flagged down in front of the Ross store regarding a shoplift that just occurred.  He detained a 30-year-old Santa Clara man who stole a shirt and a jacket from the store.  The suspect provided a false name and date of birth, and could not or would not provide an address or confirmable identifying information so he could be field cited, so he was taken into custody on the citizen’s arrest and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department.  A review of his fingerprints revealed the man’s true identity and he was found to have four warrants for sex crimes and failing to register out of Santa Clara County.  Cited for the new charge, and to county jail for the warrants.

July 20th

Shoplifting – El Cerrito Plaza
At 1655 hours, the suspect entered the business and stole approximately $500.00 worth of clothing a fled the business without paying.
