Mail Theft Arrest
On July 27th, 2022, at 0151 hours the Emeryville Police Department dispatch center received a call for service from security regarding a male subject seen on surveillance cameras inside the mail room at 6400 Christie Ave., opening mailboxes. Officers arrived on the scene within minutes and located the subject. The person ran from the officers. The subject quickly surrendered after jumping from the garage into some bushes where two officers were standing on the perimeter.
The investigation revealed the person arrested was a 42-year-old male adult named Shomari Evans, from Morgan Hill. Evans was in possession of 37 pounds of unopened stolen mail. Evans was also in possession of modified shaved keys that opened the mailboxes. Evans was arrested for burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglary, fleeing from police, and giving false information to the police. The US Postal Inspectors were informed of the arrest.
No additional information is being released at this time because of the ongoing criminal investigation.
