Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Week of July 18-24, 2022
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Notable Cases
On Wednesday, 07-20-22, at about 3:45 pm, four juvenile suspects wearing ski masks did a “grab and run” from Dick’s Sporting Goods in Daly City. A witness described the suspect vehicle and the suspects. One of our Officers recognized the description of the suspect vehicle and the suspects to be the same as the ones that did the same crime on Monday at Dick’s Sporting Goods. Shortly after, the Officer found the suspect vehicle driving toward San Francisco. Daly City Officers followed the vehicle and notified CHP and SFPD. CHP tried to stop the vehicle on East Bound I-80 near 7th Street and the vehicle fled. After a short pursuit, the vehicle became disabled, and four suspects attempted to run away. Three suspects were immediately taken into custody by CHP and the fourth was located shortly after in a nearby parking garage by SFPD. Nearly two thousand dollars in merchandise was recovered. The suspect vehicle was determined to be a stolen vehicle. The four juvenile suspects are facing multiple felony charges.

Scams/Other
Jewelry Scam
On Friday, 07-22-22, at approximately 4:43 p.m., a 33-year-old San Francisco resident was a victim of a jewelry scam. The victim said that he was in the area of Mission Street and Flournoy Street when he was approached by four individuals who he described as “Arabic or Dubai.” The victim said all four suspects were associated with an older model Nissan Pathfinder. The four suspects got out of the Nissan Pathfinder and told the victim that they needed money quickly and were willing to sell a necklace and ring to the victim. The first suspect was described as a Middle Eastern male, approximately 30 years old, 5’4”, with short black hair, and wearing a white tee shirt, black shorts, and black sandals. The second suspect was described as a short Middle Eastern female, approximately 25 years old, wearing black “Arab clothing” with a flower pattern covering her whole body and a blue jacket. The third suspect was described as a Middle Eastern juvenile male. The fourth suspect was described as a Middle Eastern female, approximately 40 years old, with gold upper teeth, long black and gray hair, and wearing black “Arab clothing” with a flower pattern covering her whole body and a gold chain. The victim said the suspects spoke to him using phrases such as “Gold, gold, gold” and “Cheap, cheap, cheap.” The fourth suspect scraped the jewelry on the ground to prove to him that the jewelry was real. The victim assumed the two pieces of jewelry were real after the suspect scraped them on the ground. The first suspect said the jewelry was worth approximately $2,000 and the ring was worth $500. He was willing to sell both pieces for $1,000 because he needed money quickly. The victim was convinced that both pieces of jewelry were real and paid $1,000 for the costume jewelry. After the transaction, the victim went to a jeweler who told him the necklace and ring were worth only $10 and that the jewelry was fake.
Zelle Scam
On Monday, 07-18-22, at approximately 2:00 pm, a 31-year-old Daly City resident received a phone call from someone posing as a “Citibank employee.” The “Citibank employee” stated that the victim’s account was compromised and he would assist with the matter. The victim noticed that there was a loan opened under her name for $9,800. The victim asked the suspect what the loan was about, and the suspect asked the victim who she sent money to using Zelle. The victim said her mom. The suspect said that a code would be sent to her mom and to have her mom come on the phone. The code was provided to the suspect, and then the suspect placed the call on hold. The victim then received a text from Zelle stating that the loan money and her savings were sent to someone unknown. The suspect hung up the phone. The victim called Citibank and the bank informed the victim that she was scammed. The victim’s personal information and money were stolen. **Online report.

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
