FAR HILLS SEWER MAINTENANCE TO BEGIN 8/1
FAR HILLS SEWER MAINTENANCE TO BEGIN 8/1
The Borough of Far Hills has contracted with Oswald Enterprises to perform preventative maintenance and cleaning of the sanitary sewer mains. The maintenance work will begin on Monday, August 1, 2022. This service will improve the sewer’s performance and significantly reduce the chance for future sewer backups and related problems. The crew will be jetting the entire sewer collection system including Peapack Road, the village area, and the Polo Club neighborhood. The jetting will be performed on the sewer main only. The jetting device will not enter any service laterals and will not perform any cleaning of service lateral piping to each property.
The cleaning process causes a vacuum in the sewer. This will not affect most homes, but some homes may be affected that have inadequate or partially blocked drain vents. The vacuum may cause “P-traps” (the little S shaped bend in the pipe under sinks and drains) to be sucked dry. Should you notice a sewer smell resulting from this, run a little water in your drains to refill the P-traps. It is recommended that you put the toilet seat(s) down, and if applicable cover floor drains with car mats on the days that the sewer cleaning is scheduled. This will minimize any possible splashing of the P-trap water in buildings that are poorly vented.
