OSBI INVESTIGATES OFFICER-INVOLVED-SHOOTING INVOLVING SAND SPRINGS POLICE

*** The following update is based on an active and ongoing investigation. The OSBI's initial understanding of the facts and circumstances may evolve over the course of the investigation as witnesses are interviewed and evidence is collected and analyzed.
Upon completion of the OSBI investigation, agents will submit a report summarizing their investigation to the District Attorney’s Office. The District Attorney will determine whether or not to file charges.
PAWNEE COUNTY, Okla. (August 1, 2022) – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating an officer-involved-shooting involving officers with the Sand Springs Police Department. Based on the initial investigation, this is what is known at this time:
- The OSBI was requested approximately 11:37 a.m. at the conclusion of a pursuit involving officers with the Sand Springs Police Department and three subjects in a Chevy Tahoe.
- A Sand Springs business called police to report a larceny at their business.
- The caller provided a vehicle description and tag number which led police to the subjects who were in a stolen vehicle out of Stephens County.
- A pursuit ensued between the vehicle and Sand Springs police that entered Pawnee County.
- The suspect vehicle crashed into an OHP Trooper vehicle and also crashed head-on into a Sand Springs vehicle.
- At that point, shots were fired hitting the suspect vehicle.
- The suspects fled the scene in the vehicle, which was dumped two miles from where the crash occurred.
- At approximately 5:45 p.m. an off-duty Pawnee County Reserve Deputy spotted the three suspects walking along Peninsula Dr. near Lake Keystone.
- The male and two females were taken into custody, however, one of the females will be treated for dehydration.
- The other man and woman will be taken to Sand Springs for questioning.
- No law enforcement were injured in the incident.
