Advisory

Non-Hazardous Pollutant Advisory

On Tuesday August 2nd at approximately 7:00 AM, Plant Operators for the Evesham Municipal Utilities Authority observed that the treated effluent being discharged at the Woodstream Waste Water Treatment Plant had a strange, bright red color. Our plant operators began investigating the matter and discovered that it was prevalent throughout, but confined to, the Woodstream treatment plant and the southern-most branch of the Pennsauken Creek that our treated effluent is discharged into. Operators along with other Authority personnel began an investigation into the origins of the discoloration. It was discovered, then confirmed, that a local beverage manufacturer had improperly dumped red food dye into the waste water system. The substance was identified by the beverage manufacturer and according to OSHA standards, the identified substance is not hazardous. The Evesham Municipal Utilities Authority has notified the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for further action. The Evesham Municipal Utilities Authority would like to reassure the residents living around the Woodstream Waste Water Treatment Plant located on Brandywine Drive in the Woodstream section of Evesham Township, that there is currently no risk to public health as a result of this incident.
