SINGLE VEHICLE FATAL CRASH 
Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports his office investigated a single vehicle fatal crash at Peavine St and California Rd, Pokagon Twp., of Cass County, Michigan. This crash happened on 08/03/2022 at approx. 1629 Hrs.
Emergency Personnel responded and found a single vehicle into a tree just west of the intersection. The driver, Landen Taggart, 17 yr. old resident of Dowagiac, MI was travelling west bound on Peavine Street when a large tree limb fell on the vehicle. This limb damaged the cab of the vehicle, spinning the limb in the roadway, while the vehicle continued west bound.
The vehicle then struck another tree on the side of the road. Emergency Personnel found the driver to be deceased due to their injuries.
A Seatbelt was used in the crash and Alcohol/Narcotics are not suspected.
Cass County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Pokagon Tribal Police, Michigan State Police, Indian Lake Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance.
This crash remains under investigation at this time.
