Two arrested for attempted homicide after a fight ended in three victims stabbed leaving one critically injured
COSTA MESA, Calif. (Aug. 4, 2022) – The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) has arrested a man and a woman suspected in a stabbing fight that left three men wounded including one critically injured. Tremere Robert Mason and Nancy Ahmad Bakir, both 23, from Newport Beach, were arrested yesterday afternoon.
On Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, at approximately 11:15 p.m., CMPD officers responded to an attempted homicide in the parking lot at the 1800 block of Harbor Boulevard. As officers arrived, they located a victim with a severe laceration to his arm. They learned friends had driven a second victim with a stab wound to the chest to a nearby hospital. The second victim was found to be in critical condition and had to undergo surgery. During the investigation, officers identified a third victim who had a stab wound to the lower back area. The three male victims are all in their early 20s. The victim with the chest wound is currently in stable condition. The other two victims were treated and released from the hospital the next day.
Officers learned the three stabbings occurred as a result of a disturbance in a nightclub on Harbor Boulevard. Security staff at the location intervened and both parties were removed from the nightclub. As the victim was told he had to leave, he messaged his friends indicating he was being ejected. Once outside Mason and Bakir followed the victim and his friends to the parking lot. As Bakir followed behind Mason, she recorded the incident. Mason confronted the group and stabbed the first victim in the lower back area. Mason slashed the second victim in the arm. Mason then followed the third victim and stabbed him in the chest. Bakir and Mason got into her vehicle and she drove away from the scene.
CMPD detectives identified Mason and Bakir and they were both detained at the 4300 block of Jamboree Road on Aug. 3, 2022. After being interviewed both were arrested. A knife and vehicle were recovered. Mason was booked for one count of attempted homicide and three counts assault with a deadly weapon. Bakir was booked for one count of accessory after the fact. At this time, the arrestee’s booking photos will not be released due to ID issues. Video recordings are part of evidence in this case and will not be released.
