Narrative: | |||||
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, through the Camarillo Police Department, will team with the Pleasant Valley School District to conduct campus safety exercises including active shooter training for deputy sheriffs and Pleasant Valley School District leadership staff at Rancho Rosal Elementary School on August 8th, 2022, at 8:00 AM. The morning session of training provided to PVSD staff will be conducted by the Camarillo Police Department’s Community Resource Unit and will educate staff members on what they can expect during active shooter situations and will provide them with training on how to keep school children and themselves safe. Trained PVSD administrators will return to their school campuses and work with School Resource Officers to conduct additional training for all school staff. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office will undergo classroom training in the morning and scenario-based training in the afternoon. The scenario-based training will involve actors with weapons capable of firing blank ammunition. PVSD leaders will be invited to observe the scenario-based training in order to understand how Sheriff’s deputies will respond in a critical incident of this type. This refresher training will continue to prepare our deputy sheriffs and school staff to respond to and resolve critical incidents quickly and safely. All of the training will take place within the fenced grounds of Rancho Rosal Elementary School. Law enforcement personnel from the Camarillo Police Department will visit the neighborhoods surrounding the school prior to inform residents on what they can expect during the training session. The training is not open to the public. |
