Suspect Arrested after Evading Deputies and Throwing a Gun out of the Vehicle

LOCATION: Rimrock Avenue and Scenic Ridge Drive, Chino Hills
SUSPECT(S): Peter Pena, 22-year-old resident of Pomona
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Thursday, August 4, 2022, at approximately 10:40 PM, deputies assigned to the Chino Hills Police/Sheriff's Station conducted a vehicle check in the area of Rimrock Avenue and Scenic Ridge Drive in Chino Hills. As deputies attempted to detain the male driver, later identified as Peter Pena, Pena placed the car in drive and sped away at a high rate of speed nearly hitting a deputy with the vehicle. Deputies pursued Pena and lost sight of the vehicle. An area check was performed, and the vehicle was located. Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and Pena failed to yield. Pena led deputies on a pursuit through several cities. While on the 210 Freeway, Pena threw an item, which was later identified as a shotgun, out of the window at Archibald Avenue. Pena yielded on Church Street and East Street in Rancho Cucamonga, where he was taken into custoday. Pena was transported to West Valley Detention Center, and was booked for felony evading, possession of a firearm with altered identification, and possession of an explosive device.
