Incident Summary-
On 8/5/2022, at approximately 5:58 a.m., Petaluma police officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Willow Drive to investigate suspicious circumstances. The reporting party called 9-1-1 (from a separate location, second hand) reporting they had received a call from Tyler Elliott. Elliott told them he had shot someone inside his residence.

Officers arrived on scene but did not immediately notice any signs of a disturbance including any suspicious people in the area. Dispatchers then received a call from Elliott who was ordered to exit the residence. Elliott was detained and a search of his residence was conducted. No other people were in or about his residence.

Officers did locate an assault rifle in the residence and observed a shattered glass door. The door appeared to have been shot from inside the residence, causing it to shatter. After speaking with Elliott and reviewing the scene, officers determined there was not any evidence that suggested an intruder was inside or breaking into the residence. Elliott was arrested for the negligent discharge of a firearm among other associated charges. He was later booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

Based the evidence and statements obtained, officers believed only one shot was fired. The surrounding area was checked for the location/direction of the bullet. It is believed the bullet entered the backyard of Elliott’s residence, struck a concrete patio and fragmented.
