On 7-27-2022, at 1844 hours, (S) Torralba was driving his vehicle southbound on Olsen Road at a high rate of speed approaching the intersection of Hardy Lane. The driver had an adult and a juvenile passenger in the vehicle at the time. Due to the high rate of speed, the driver lost control of the vehicle and was involved in a collision. The collision investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling straight at approximately 80-90 mph, when it drifted to the left and collided with the center median of Olsen Road. The driver attempted to correct the vehicle by turning to the right. This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and veer to the right. The vehicle continued forward and left the roadway on the north side of Olsen Road. Once the vehicle left the roadway, it traveled down a landscaped hill, and overturned approximately 5 times while colliding with multiple signs, trees, and bushes. The vehicle came to rest in the Ventura County Sheriff’s East Valley Station’s staff parking lot. Multiple deputies were in the vicinity and responded immediately, providing medical aid to the occupants and requested medical personnel to respond. The driver and two passengers were transported to nearby hospitals and sustained moderate injuries as a result of the collision. All were released from the hospital shortly after their arrival. Throughout the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver had an instructional driver’s permit and was driving out of compliance with the permit. Based on the totality of the investigation, the driver was cited and released for the violation of CVC 23104(a) – Reckless Driving with Bodily Injury and CVC 12500(a)- Unlicensed Driver. The City of Thousand Oaks has seen a recent increase in highspeed traffic collisions resulting in major injury or death. The Thousand Oaks Police Department remains committed to combating these types of collisions and has no leniency for reckless or dangerous driving. We highly encourage the public to report Reckless and DUI drivers to Ventura County Sheriff’s Dispatch (911) or by calling our non-emergency line at (805) 654-9511.
