Contact during foot patrol results in arrest for illegal handgun possession.

On 8/5/22 at approximately 7:05 PM, Officers from the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) were conducting a foot patrol along the Newhall bike path.  The path runs between Petaluma Hill Road and Hendley Street.  This area has had numerous acts of gang related graffiti and other crimes including illegal fireworks.
The Officers contacted 2 subjects that they were familiar with from prior investigations.  The officers knew that one subject was a minor and was on a grant of juvenile probation with specific terms related to gang involvement.  They also knew that the second person, 21-year-old Santa Rosa resident Cristian Fernando Hernandez Gonzalez, had prior gang involvements.
During a search of Gonzalez, the Officers located a loaded 9mm handgun.  The handgun did not have an applied serial number and is commonly referred to as a “ghost gun.”  The handgun had a laser attached to it.  Gonzalez had a prior conviction for robbery and was prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Gonzalez was arrested and booked at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for the following felony charges:
29800(a)PC – Felon in possession of a firearm
25400(c)(6)PC – Possession of concealed firearm
25850(c)(6)PC – Possession concealed firearm not registered
30305(a)PC – Felon in possession of ammunition
186.22(a)PC – Street gang participant
The Santa Rosa Police Department in committed to making Santa Rosa a safe place to live, work and play.
