Update from Mayor Bhalla on COVID-19 and monkeypox (8/07): COVID-19 vaccination/booster clinic Tuesday

Below is an update from Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla on COVID-19 and monkeypox.  

Vaccine clinic on Tuesday with Hudson Regional Health Commission

On Tuesday, Aug. 9, the Hudson Regional Health Commission will offer vaccines and boosters for all those eligible 6 months old and older from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at 605 Jackson Street. 

Residents can book an appointment online at www.hudsoncovidvax.org. Walk-ins will be accepted.  

I encourage parents to consider getting their children vaccinated and boosted, if eligible, to help provide an added layer of protection before the start of the school year. 

COVID-19 testing on Wednesday

Medicine Man Pharmacy & Compounding will offer COVID-19 testing on Wednesday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 605 Jackson Street.

The testing clinic is by appointment only. To make an appointment, go to www.hobokennj.gov/testing.

The Hoboken Health Department reports the following COVID-19 cases:

Please note, some of the above cases reflect backlogged reporting via the lab.

There have been a total of 13,484 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hoboken and 65 fatalities since the pandemic began. Hoboken University Medical Center is not currently treating anyone with COVID-19.

Update from the Hoboken Health Department 

  • Cases are associated with community widespread in daycare, social gatherings, travel, and work. 
  • Our regional COVID Activity Level Index (CALI) score is currently “High Risk.”

Vaccination rate update

Below is the vaccination rate for Hoboken:
All ages: 96% (first dose)
12 and over: 99% (first dose)
18 and over: 96% (first dose)
30 and over: nearly 100% (first dose)
65 and over: nearly 100% (first dose)

All ages: 83% (second dose)
12 and over: 86% (second dose)
18 and over: 83% (second dose)
30 and over: nearly 100% (second dose)
65 and over: nearly 100% (second dose)

The state has not provided municipalities with booster numbers.

At-home testing
At-home rapid tests are available through the federal government. Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order free at-⁠home COVID-⁠19 antigen tests through the US Postal Service. Orders will usually ship in 7-12 days. To learn more, or to order at-home COVID-19 tests, go to www.covidtests.gov.

Monkeypox update

As an update on monkeypox, the State reports a total of 214 probable and confirmed cases of monkeypox in New Jersey as of Aug. 5. Hudson County has a total of 67 cases. The Hoboken Health Department has confirmed some cases of monkeypox in Hoboken. The Hoboken Health Department has been in contact with their close contacts and provided guidance on self-isolation.

The State now has five vaccine locations available by appointment only for those eligible. 

According to the New Jersey Department of Health, those individuals eligible to receive the vaccine are those who have had known contact with someone who tested positive for orthopoxvirus or monkeypox in the past 14 days, people who attended an event where known monkeypox exposure occurred within 14 days, and men who have sex with other men.
