Incident Summary
 
On 8/8/2022 at 0554 hrs, a 35-year-old male driver of a white Chevrolet Spark was traveling east on Lakeville Hwy between Frates and Browns Lane when the driver attempted to unlawfully overtake the vehicle in front of him. Upon crossing the double yellow lines, he collided head on with a White Toyota Rav 4 which was traveling westbound on Lakeville Hwy. The Toyota was being driven by a 50-year-old woman.
 
It was reported that both drivers were unconscious and trapped in the vehicles. Petaluma Police and Petaluma Fire Units responded to the area and a Nixle broadcast was made for motorists to avoid the area.
 
Both parties were extricated from their vehicles. The drivers were transported by Petaluma Ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Both drivers suffered moderate to severe injuries and are expected to survive. The vehicles were removed from the roadway and the roadway was reopened by 0841 hrs.
 
Since January 1st, 2022, there have been 25 collisions with 12 reported injuries on Lakeville Hwy from Pine View to the City Limits.
 
Petaluma Police would like to remind motorists to obey traffic laws, drive within the speed limit, remain alert and aware of other vehicles and pedestrians. Collisions like this are totally preventable. We hope for quick and full recoveries from both drivers involved in this collision.
