BACK TO SCHOOL
BUS STOP SAFETY

It’s about that time!!! The Stallion Springs Police Department would like to welcome students and parents back to school. With the first day of school tomorrow, we remind everyone to stay aware and stay safe with increased traffic returning to school bus zones. We would like to share a few reminders to help ensure a safe environment for parents, motorists and students.

California State law requires drivers to stop when a school bus is in front of them and extends its stop sign with flashing red lights. Drivers must remain stopped if the red lights are activated.  Drivers in both directions must stop on any two-lane road without a median or a center turn lane.  CA Vehicle Code (CVC) 22454

Road construction has begun on Banducci Road and will continue throughout the week. Please give yourself a little extra time to get to your destination, and watch for workers and equipment.

The Stallion Springs Police Department offers the following tips to stay safe around school bus stops:

REMINDERS FOR PARENTS:
  • Slow down. Obey all speed limits, especially in school zones
  • Arrive early, especially the first few days of school as these are usually extra hectic.
  • Set the example for your children.  Wake up early and allow yourself plenty of time in the morning so you don’t have to rush.
  • Avoid unnecessary distractions when operating a motor vehicle.
  • Maintain patience and cooperation with school staff during the drop off and pick up process.
  • Be extra cautious when driving in your neighborhood before, during and after school hours. It can be hard to see kids who may be walking from the bus stop.
  • Always obey the rules of the road.
  • Obey directions from crossing guards.
  • Use child safety seats and seatbelts correctly.
REMINDERS FOR CHILDREN
  • Arrive at least five minutes early to the bus stop.
  • Cross only at crosswalks or designated areas, never in the middle of a block or between parked cars.
  • Use public sidewalks and streets, always avoid cutting through other people’s property.
  • Watch for cars entering or backing out of driveways or leaving parking spaces.
  • Walk to and from the school bus stop in a group with friends or other students.
  • Obey directions from crossing guards.
  • Don’t text or use your phone while walking.
  • Don’t use headphones while walking. Always be aware of your surroundings.

The Stallion Springs Police Department wishes all our residents and children a safe 2022-2023 school year!
