On Wednesday, August 3^rd, 2022, at approximately 12:36 PM, Union City Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of 8^th Street and H Street for a just occurred shooting.  Upon arrival, officers learned that a male victim (44 years old) was shot once in the leg. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later released. 

During the investigation, it was learned that the shooting victim was driving in the area when he observed two suspects rob a female victim of her Jewelry. After the robbery, the suspects fled towards a nearby getaway vehicle. The male victim followed the suspects to obtain their license plate and vehicle description. During the process, the suspects shot the victim for following them.
 
Three suspects were later taken into custody in the City of Oakland, CA. A high-capacity pistol magazine was recovered, but no weapons were located. 

The suspects arrested were two juveniles (16 and 17 years old) from Hayward, CA and one adult. The 17-year-old juvenile was charged with PC 211 (Robbery) and PC 245 (assault with a deadly weapon).  The 16-year-old juvenile was charged with PC 211 (Robbery) and PC 664/187 (attempt homicide).

The adult was identified as:
Ronald Hayes (29 years old, from Hayward, CA) was charged with PC 211 (Robbery), PC 246 (discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle), PC 245(B) (Assault with a semi-automatic firearm), and CVC 2800.4 (Evading arrest). Ronald Hayes also had an outstanding warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
