Narrative:
Fire rescue crews responded to a 9-1-1 call from a trapped resident and rescued the individual from a burning mobile home.

On August 9, 2022, at around 1:49AM, the Ventura County Fire Department, along with Thousand Oaks patrol deputies and Sheriff’s Major Crimes investigators responded to a residential structure fire in the 50 Block of Saint John Court, a housing community known as the Ventu Estates Mobile Home Park.  When firefighters entered the mobile home, they discovered the fire had engulfed the kitchen and family room area of the residence.  Firefighters located Walter Salat, 69, on the floor of his den, suffering from smoke inhalation and serious burns.

Immediately after Salat was removed from the residence, paramedics administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).  Salat was rushed to Los Robles Hospital where advanced life-saving measures were performed.  Salat later succumbed to his injuries.

Fire crews worked on extinguishing the fire and noted no other people or animals were found inside the residence.  As a result of the fire, no other structures were affected and nobody else was injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Ventura County Fire Department.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detective Javier Chavez at (805) 384-4725.  If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call “Crime Stoppers” at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
