SLPD Pursuit and Firearm Recovery:

On August 10th, 2022, at about 10:14 pm, San Leandro Police officers were patrolling the area of Hesperian Boulevard and Olive Street when they observed a dark-colored SUV commit a traffic violation.  As the officers began a traffic enforcement stop by activating their emergency alert system, the suspect vehicle failed to yield.  The suspect, a 36-year-old San Lorenzo resident, led officers on a pursuit on I238 and West on I580.  The vehicle pursuit terminated when the suspect vehicle "ran out of gas."

The suspect stayed in the vehicle and cooperated with police commands to exit.  The suspect was arrested without further incident.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located two pounds of marijuana.

Officers also found a loaded firearm the suspect discarded on the highway.  The handgun was loaded at the time of its discovery.

The suspect was arrested for being a prohibited person from carrying a firearm pursuant to 29800(A)(1) of the Califonia Penal Code.

Please see the attached photo of last night's recovered firearm.

Note:  SLPD recovered 11 firearms in July 2022.  Five of the 11 guns were "ghost guns."
