The Redwood City Police Department’s undercover Street Crimes Suppression Team (SCST) was conducting a Friday night pre-event safety enforcement in the downtown area when they observed 4 juveniles and an adult passing a loaded handgun back and forth. Undercover SCST units alerted uniformed officers assigned to the Departments Downtown Services Unit to coordinate contact with the armed suspects. All five suspects alerted to the approaching uniformed officers and immediately ran from the area.

After a brief foot chase, all five suspects were detained without further hostilities. Recovered from various members of the group was a loaded, 40 Caliber Glock handgun with a 20-round extended magazine. Also recovered were a pair of brass knuckles and a realistic Glock replica looking pellet gun. The Glock replica pellet gun had been modified to look like a real gun by removing the manufacture’s orange safety alert tip at the end of the barrel. The recovered 40 caliber is unregistered and had a magazine capable of holding 21 bullets.

The four juvenile suspects were arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Youth Services Facility. The adult, Fernando HernandezMaldonado (22 years old) was also arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
