August 12, 2022
Announcing Hero Week
On July 26, 2022, Sheriff Dicus recognized fifty-nine extraordinary individuals for going above and beyond in their communities at the biennial Sheriff's Exceptional Service Awards Ceremony. Two award categories were presented to the recipients during the ceremony, the Sheriff's Medal for Meritorious Service and the Sheriff's Medal of Valor. The recipients of these awards were law enforcement professionals, firefighters, citizens, and medical professionals.
The Sheriff's Medal for Meritorious Service is awarded to those who distinguish themselves by serving the community in an extraordinary manner. Twenty-three people received the Meritorious Service Medal. The Sheriff's Medal of Valor is awarded to those who distinguish themselves by acts of bravery and/or heroism or by coming to the assistance of others. Thirty-six people received the Medal of Valor.
During the week of August 14 through August 20, we will be sharing two of these hero stories each day on our social media channels. We would like to invite the public to visit our social media pages during this Hero Week to read these amazing stories of selfless bravery and service and join us in congratulating each of these heroes.
