Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Week of August 1-7, 2022

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Robberies

There were two robberies during the past week.

On Monday, 08-01-22, at approximately 12:28 p.m., Officer Hepler was dispatched to Walgreens on San Pedro Road on a report of a robbery. The store manager said he saw a suspect take cosmetics and place them into a white plastic bag. The store manager asked the suspect if he needed help and the suspect yelled back, “I don’t need you. I’m gonna hit you!” The manager said at that point he retreated towards the back office and called the police. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 40 years old, 5’10”, 180 pounds, and wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black and white shoes, and a white face mask. The suspect took approximately $550 in cosmetics, exited the store, and walked away westbound on San Pedro Road.

On Tuesday, 08-02-22, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Officer Delorenzi was dispatched to Walgreens in the Westlake Shopping Center on a report of a robbery. An employee stated that he observed two suspects enter the store and conceal laundry detergent in a backpack. The store employee demanded that the suspects stop shoplifting and turned around to call 911. One of the suspects proceeded to hit the employee in the upper back and then exited the store with the stolen merchandise: paper towels, laundry detergent, and soft drinks, valued at approximately $30. The second suspect, who was stopped by Officer Delorenzi, had stated that he did not know the first suspect. This second suspect had a receipt for the merchandise except for the Bounce dryer sheets. This suspect returned the dryer sheets to Walgreens and left.

Residential Burglaries

There was one attempted residential burglary during the past week.

On Wednesday, 08-03-22, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Officer Ortiz was dispatched to the 200 block of Palisades Drive on a report of a suspect(s) who tried to pry open the front and rear doors of a residence. The victim heard noises coming from the backyard and lower level of the home. The victim proceeded to the lower level, saw the backdoor opening, said, “Who’s out there?”, and yelled, “Someone is trying to break in.” The victim then heard the suspect leave. The suspect was not able to open the door fully due to a piece of wood that obstructed the door’s pathway. Another resident heard noise from the front door and saw a person wearing a black hoodie. Being afraid, he went to look for other members of the household. At this time, he then heard banging from downstairs. After the suspect(s) left, they checked the front door and noticed pry marks. This investigation is continuing.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
