Shooting at Gas Station Leaves One Wounded and One Suspect in Custody
Thursday afternoon, August 11, 2022, at approximately 4:48 p.m., Turlock Police Dispatch received a call of a shooting outside a gas station in the 100 block of North Tully Rd. Officers arrived on scene and located the shooting victim in a nearby parking lot. The adult male victim suffered a single, non-life threatening gunshot wound to his lower body. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
The shooter, later identified as Aaron Martinez, 39-years old, resident of Keyes, fled the scene in a vehicle. The license plate of the suspect vehicle was obtained by witnesses on scene and came back registered to Martinez at his Keyes address.
Turlock Police Department Officers, Investigators with the Special Investigations Unit, and Deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department went to the area of Martinez’ residence in an attempt to locate him. While driving in the area of the 5000 block of Nunes Road, Martinez was spotted walking in the area. An unknown vehicle
driving in the area picked up Martinez and drove away.
Officers followed the vehicle and attempted to stop it, however, the unknown driver did not immediately stop. Once the vehicle came to a stop, Martinez stepped out, and the vehicle drove away. Martinez was taken into custody without incident. Officers and deputies searched for this vehicle in the area and were not able to locate it.
The specific circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation, and this appears to be an isolated incident between individuals who know one another.
Members of the Turlock Police Department Detective Unit and the Special Investigations Unit assisted patrol with this investigation which lasted for several hours.
Captain Steve Rodrigues said, “The safety of our community is our top concern. We want to thank all of our law enforcement partners who assisted in the apprehension of this violent individual.”
Martinez was booked in the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of attempt homicide, felon in possession of a firearm, committing a felony while out on bail, committing a felony while using a firearm, and other various gun related charges.
