Hoboken Recreation Division announces new golf clinics

The Hoboken Recreation Division today announced a new golf pilot program designed to gauge youth interest in the sport and introduce children between the ages of 9 and 13 years old to golf fundamentals. The free golf clinics will be offered on Saturdays between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. with First Tee at Harborside Park, located at 1500 Park Ave.

The clinic schedule is as follows:

  • Sept. 17 for 9 - 10 years old
  • Sept. 24 for 11 - 13 years old
  • Oct. 8 for 9 - 10 years old
  • Oct. 15 for 11 - 13 years old

Registration is scheduled to open on Monday, Aug. 22, at 5 p.m. at www.hobokennj.gov/golfregistration. Registration is first come, first served as clinic capacities are limited to 15 children per clinic. Once capacities are met, the City will create a waitlist of registrants and seek to open additional clinics if interest dictates.

800 Monroe capping begins

The City is moving forward with plans for a new resiliency park at 800 Monroe St., with a public planning process planned for the fall to gain community input. The City acquired the property, initially slated for residential development, through a three-way land swap agreement with the Applied Parties last year.

On Tuesday, Aug. 16, Applied Parties will begin construction on 800 Monroe St. to demolish and dispose of the former groundwater treatment infrastructure in order to install a clean stone cap as an engineering control. Work is anticipated to be completed by mid-September.

Heavy equipment will be utilized, and there will be noise associated with this work. All work will adhere to the City of Hoboken Noise Control Ordinance and will be conducted between the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. No weekend work is anticipated.

To minimize dust emissions during demolition and grading, all surfaces will be kept damp through use of the water truck.

The contractors have implemented a rodent baiting protocol to mitigate rodent activity.

Access to the site will be via the existing gate on Monroe Street. On-street parking between 9th Street and the site entrance on both sides of Monroe Street will be restricted during weekday construction.
