The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito August 14th to August 8, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
August 5th

Attempted Grand Theft – Harbor Freight Tools 11048 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 11:41am a suspect attempted to walk out the store with a hand truck of unpaid welders, but dropped the hand truck prior to exiting. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult, 20-30 years old, wearing a black shirt, black pants, a white surgical mask and a red hat.  The suspect fled northbound on San Pablo Ave. in a grey older model Volvo that was missing the bumper.

Grand Theft – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Ross)
At 7:41pm, two suspects entered the business and stole $2,000 worth of clothing. The suspects fled towards the Del Norte BART station prior to our arrival.

DUI – 7900 Cutting Blvd (Berkeley Country Club)
At 8:46pm, officers were dispatched to the country club for the report of a possible DUI driver in the parking lot that nearly collided into parked vehicles. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect seated in his vehicle. The suspect was determined to be driving while intoxicated and was placed under arrest. The 50-year old male from Ohio was over 3 times the legal limit and was transported to ECPD for booking. His vehicle was impounded. After booking, the suspect was released to a sober friend.

August 6th
Grand Theft – 5300 block of Cypress Ave.
On August 2nd, 2022 at approximately 5:00pm, the victim befriended the female suspect at the San Pablo Lytton Casino.  The victim drove her to his residence and invited her inside.  Before fleeing the residence, the female suspect stole the victim’s wallet, keys, IPhone, $200.00 cash, and an IPad.  During the next couple of days, the suspect unlawfully charged over $2000.00 on the victims credit cards in San Francisco.  The suspect was described as a Middle Eastern female, 32-35 years old, 5’2”, and 140lbs.
 
August 7th
Attempt vehicle theft, Evading, Possession of burglary tools, Possession of narcotics – Terrace Dr/Contra Costa Dr:
At 04:48am, an officer was patrolling the area and located the suspect vehicle parked in the middle of the street and 2 suspects tampering with the victim’s vehicle. The officer attempted to contact the suspect but they sped away in their vehicle westbound on Terrace Dr. The officer caught up to the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle did not stop. While in the 800 block of Seaview Dr, the suspects crashed into a parked vehicle. The male passenger fled on foot into the neighborhood. The female driver, a 32-year old woman from El Sobrante, was safely taken into custody. The suspect vehicle was impounded. Inside of the vehicle were several tools commonly used to steal vehicles and steal catalytic converters. The tools were seized as evidence. The female suspect was arrested for being in possession of narcotics and paraphernalia, evading a peace officer, and conspiracy. The female suspect was booked at the ECPD and released with a citation. The male suspect was not captured. Further inspection of the vehicle on Terrace Dr/Contra Costa Dr revealed extensive damage to the ignition as the suspects were likely trying to steal it.

Shoplifting – 11545 San Pablo Ave (Ross)
At 7:07pm, an officer reports that an unknown suspect stole merchandise from the business and fled towards the Del Norte BART Station.
 
August 8th

Stolen Vehicle Report – 700 block of Richmond St. 
The victims gray 1999 Honda CRV was stolen between the hours of 3:00am to 11:20am.

Armed Robbery – Wells Fargo 9800 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 3:50pm the victim was standing in line outside of the bank, to make a cash deposit. The suspect approached the victim and ripped a plastic bag full of cash from the victim’s hands, stealing over $5,000.00  The suspect got into a gray Honda or Toyota SUV that fled southbound on San Pablo Ave. 

The suspect was described as a black male adult 25-26 years old, 5’8”, wearing a gray/black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, a facemask, and armed with a black semiautomatic handgun.  There were three other suspects in the SUV, all described as black male adults, wearing face masks; one of the occupants was also armed with a black semiautomatic handgun.  
 
Robbery – 6060 Central Ave: (Nation’s):
At 6:42pm, an officer reports that the suspect became upset because the victim vehicle was parked in the red zone. The suspect confronted the victim. The victim took out his cell phone to record the suspect, and the suspect snatched the phone from the victim. The suspect fled the scene.

Stolen Vehicle – 1900 block of Ganges Ave:
At 10:13pm, an officer reports that an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1999 Honda Civic sometime during the past several days. The vehicle was located behind 11545 San Pablo Ave.
