The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito August 12th to August 14, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
August 12th
 
August 13th

Theft from Auto – Trader Joe’s parking lot 225 El Cerrito Plaza –
At approximately 5:45am an unknown suspect stole two cellphones from the victim’s unlocked truck.  The suspect was described as a white male adult, skinny, wearing a tan vest, blue jeans and riding a mountain bike.

Strong Armed Robbery/Obstructing a Police Officer/Warrant Arrest – Verizon 410 El Cerrito Plaza –
At approximately 12:48pm, a 35 year old male suspect from Hayward ripped a cell phone off the display shelf.  When the manager confronted him, the suspect threatened to harm the manager, and the suspect walked out the store with the stolen phone.  The manager provided officers with a cellphone picture of the suspect. 
At approximately 2:45pm, officers responded to 10176 San Pablo Ave (3R TEK Mobile Phone Repair Shop) for a report of the same suspect causing a disturbance and banging on the windows.  Officers located the suspect walking on San Pablo Ave near Eureka Ave. Officers recognized the male as the robbery suspect from Verizon.
The suspect refused to stop for officers rode his bike away, dropped it, and began running eastbound on Eureka Ave. Officers ordered the suspect to stop running or he would be apprehended by our K9.  The male refused to listen to officer’s commands and continued running.  A police K9 was released and quickly apprehended the suspect.  While running from police, the suspect threw a cellphone which officers located and identified as the stolen phone from Verizon.   It was later discovered that the male had a warrant for his arrest from the Richmond Police Department for attempted carjacking and brandishing a weapon.

The male was also in possession of two cell phones that possibly belonged to the victim from the earlier theft from Trader Joes.   The male was transported to Kaiser Richmond by ambulance for his injury, and after being medically cleared, he was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Auto Burglary – 10500 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 6:56pm, an officer reports that an unknown suspect shattered a window to the victim’s vehicle and stole a purse. 

Shoplift – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 7:26pm, an officer reports that two unknown suspects stole merchandise valued at $350 from the business.
