Supervisor Barber’s Weekly Newsletter (No. 7) (Thursday, August 18, 2022)

Over the past week, federal and state health officials have announced COVID-19 related actions in anticipation of the new school year and colder weather when people spend more time indoors.  The CDC has issued new guidance on social distancing and quarantining and the Governor has extended the State of Emergency for another month.  More details are below.

With the unofficial end of summer around the corner, several significant and long-planned projects are either concluding or just starting.  Two of three Town sidewalk projects, including on Western Avenue to the Guilderland Public Library and on West Old State Road to Lynnwood Elementary, are well underway and on schedule for completion in the next few weeks.  The third sidewalk on Carman Road to Pine Bush Elementary is part of the new roundabout project at Carman Road and Lydius Street, which, due to the need to relocate utilities, will likely be installed next spring.

Two other major construction projects should start this fall, including the new EMS ambulance station at the entrance of the Town golf course and the major renovation of the Guilderland Performing Arts Center in Tawasentha Park.  Unlike sidewalks, these projects are well off the road and will not impact traffic.
